Instead of pride, embarrassment: the US Navy Museum congratulated the fleet with a photo of the Varyag

There was confusion in the United States during the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Navy. For example, the National Museum of the Navy published a greeting card for Navy Day, which depicted a Russian warship instead of an American ship.
As Wall Street Journal journalist Dave Brown noted, on October 13, the museum published a post thanking everyone who “served and is serving our nation,” but chose an image of the Russian missile cruiser Varyag as an illustration.
The mistake caused a wave of ridicule and criticism on social media, because that day the US Navy celebrated its 250th anniversary, which is an important event for the American armed forces.
The curiosity became even more noticeable when Florida Senator Jim Boyd made a similar mistake – he also posted congratulations to the Russian ship, but later deleted the post.
Note that U.S. Navy Day is an annual holiday celebrated on October 13 to commemorate the founding of the American Navy. It was on this day in 1775 that the Second Continental Congress decided to create a naval force to protect the young nation.
Since then, the U.S. Navy has grown into one of the world’s most powerful naval forces, playing a key role in global security, international stability, and the protection of U.S. interests. Traditionally, this day is marked by ceremonial events, ceremonies honoring veterans and active sailors, and themed events at museums and military bases.
This year’s date has become special – the US Navy is celebrating its 250th anniversary, making this holiday one of the most important events for the American armed forces.
Today, the U.S. Navy has approximately 332,000 active duty personnel, including 125,000 in reserve. The fleet operates approximately 295 combat ships, as well as approximately 3,700 aircraft and helicopters that provide air support and strategic missions.
