Interception of Russian missiles over Ukraine requires discussion – Sikorsky

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said that the issue of intercepting Russian missiles over the territory of Ukraine requires serious discussion and should not become a subject of internal political struggle.

During a conversation with journalists, Sikorsky was asked to comment on the statement of former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, who opposed the transfer of new missiles for Patriot systems to Ukraine and suggested the possibility of dissolving the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ).

In response, the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry drew attention to the constant Russian attacks on Ukraine.

“Ballistic missiles have been flying towards Kyiv for several days in a row, against which there is currently no defense. They are killing more and more people,” Sikorsky said.

According to him, the question of whether it would be more effective to intercept Russian missiles over Ukraine, rather than waiting for them to potentially approach Polish territory, requires professional discussion.

“This is a topic for a very serious discussion, which should not become a hostage to party rivalry,” the minister emphasized.

Commenting on Morawiecki’s words regarding the Polish Arms Group, Sikorski noted that the largest defense companies in the world, including Boeing, Raytheon, and Lockheed Martin, are private.

He also cited the example of Ukraine, where a significant portion of missiles and drones are produced by private companies that respond quickly to the needs of the front.

According to Sikorski, Poland should also develop a competitive private defense sector that can promptly provide the army with modern weapons.

As a reminder, Poland is preparing the 50th package of military aid for Ukraine . Despite the tension in bilateral relations, the supply of weapons and equipment to the Ukrainian army continues.
