Iranian cruise missiles hit two tankers flying the flag of the United Arab Emirates in the Strait of Hormuz. The attack killed one crew member and injured eight others, including two Ukrainian citizens.

Reuters reports this.

According to the UAE Ministry of Defense, the tankers Mombasa and Al Bahiyah, which were in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz in the territorial waters of Oman, were attacked.

One sailor died on board the Mombasa. A total of eight crew members were injured, four of them in serious condition. Among the injured are six Indian citizens and two Ukrainians.

After the hits, fires broke out on both ships. The crews managed to localize the fire.

UAE authorities called the incident a “blatant attack” and said they reserved the right to respond to escalation.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had attacked two “violating vessels” that allegedly ignored warnings and tried to pass through a mined route. Tehran also accused the United States of allegedly encouraging the crews to travel this route.

There is currently no information on the condition of the wounded Ukrainian citizens.

As a reminder, the United States has resumed strikes on Iran and announced a new military operation aimed at limiting Tehran’s ability to threaten shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Amid the escalation of the conflict, world oil prices have risen again.

As reported, the US first used air and sea attack drones during strikes on Iranian military facilities.
