Iran has called talks with the US “pointless” after Israel’s missile strikes on its nuclear facilities.
Bloomberg reports this.
Tehran spokesman Abbas Baghaei said further dialogue was pointless because the other side’s actions had made it futile. Talks between the US and Iran were due to resume in Oman on Sunday but are now in jeopardy.
However, no official cancellation has been announced yet. US President Donald Trump in his address called on Iran to make a deal before it is too late.
Against the backdrop of the escalating conflict in the Middle East, it threatens to escalate into a large-scale regional war. The day before, Iran launched a massive missile attack on Israel in response to attacks on its strategic facilities.
As is known, on the night of Friday, June 13, Israel launched a large-scale air strike on Iranian territory . The targets were facilities related to the Iranian nuclear program, in particular, uranium enrichment plants in Natan and Fordow, as well as missile bases in Kermanshah and Khorramabad. Tehran, Isfahan, Tabriz and other large cities came under fire.
More than 70 people have been killed in an airstrike on Tehran, including at least 20 senior military officials . Iranian media reported that the attacks killed key military figures, including Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Hossein Salami, chief of staff Mohammad Bagheri and nuclear physicist Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi.
In response , Iran launched hundreds of ballistic missiles and drones into Israel on June 14. Explosions were heard in the skies over Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, and air defense systems tried to intercept the threat. The Israel Defense Forces called on the population to take shelter. According to preliminary data, at least several people were killed in Israel, dozens were injured, and there was destruction.
