Iran has missiles capable of reaching Ukraine: what is known
Iran has medium-range ballistic missiles capable of hitting targets in Ukraine. The most threatening of these is the Khorramshahr missile, which has a range of about 4,000 kilometers.
This is reported by Defense Express.
Experts have drawn attention to the statement of the head of the Iranian parliament’s national security committee, Ebrahim Azizi, who threatened Ukraine with “retaliation” after the attack on an Iranian ship in the Caspian Sea. According to analysts, the ship could have been involved in the transportation of weapons and components.
According to Defense Express, in addition to the Khorramshahr, Iran has the Ghadr, Emad, and Sejjil missiles, which have a range of about 2,000 kilometers. This is enough to strike Ukrainian territory from the northern regions of Iran.
Analysts say the Khorramshahr missile could be equipped with a submunition warhead, which Iran has already used in attacks on Israel. Such a system is designed to hit large areas and complicate missile defenses.
Defence Express notes that effective interception of Iranian medium-range ballistic missiles requires specialized missile defense systems, including THAAD, Arrow-2 and Arrow-3. Patriot systems have only limited capabilities to counter such targets, and the effectiveness of their use depends on the characteristics of the specific missile.
As a reminder, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of attacking an Iranian merchant ship. He also stated that Ukraine’s actions “cannot go unanswered.”
