Iran may attack US military facilities in Europe – media
Iranian authorities are discussing the possibility of strikes on American military facilities in Europe if the US escalates further against Tehran.
This was reported by the Financial Times, citing two sources in Tehran.
According to the publication’s sources, the Iranian authorities have begun considering possible attacks on American targets in southeastern Europe. Tehran sees such actions as a way to raise the stakes in the confrontation with the United States.
Sources have named Bulgaria as a potential target. Last month, the country allowed the US military to use Bezmer Air Base to refuel aircraft.
Tehran is also reportedly considering Cyprus, where a British military base is located. It was already attacked by a strike drone in March.
Previously, the Iranian authorities also threatened Great Britain with strikes on facilities that the British side allows the American military to use during the campaign against Iran.
In addition, according to the FT, Tehran is discussing the possibility of damaging submarine cables in the Strait of Hormuz.
The publication’s sources emphasized that the decision to expand the geography of the confrontation will depend on Washington’s further actions.
By the way, the United States and Iran have not yet been able to make progress in negotiations to end the war in the Middle East and restore the interim agreement that the parties concluded in June.
It was previously reported that on the night of July 15, the United States launched a new series of strikes on Iranian military facilities and announced the resumption of a naval blockade of ships heading to or leaving Iranian ports .
The day before, Iranian cruise missiles hit two tankers flying the flag of the United Arab Emirates in the Strait of Hormuz . The attack killed one crew member and injured eight others, including two Ukrainian citizens.
