Teachers and students from two schools were evacuated after an Iranian drone struck an airport building and exploded.
“Evacuation measures were taken to ensure the safety of teachers and students,” the Ministry of Education of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic noted.
Later, Azerbaijan officially confirmed the attack. As it became known, one “martyr” was killed in the terminal building of the Nakhchivan airport, and the other near a school in the village of Shekerabad. As a result, two people were injured.
Baku summoned the Iranian ambassador and declared its right to retaliate.
“We demand that Iran clarify the situation as soon as possible and take necessary and urgent measures to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents in the future,” the Foreign Ministry stressed.
It is worth noting that Azerbaijan has put troops on combat alert and deployed them on the border with Iran amid the aggravation of the situation in the Middle East, regional publication OC Media reports .
Separately, opposition politician Yadigar Sadigli said that the country should prepare air defenses.
“It is especially important to bring the air defense forces to basic combat readiness. Aviation must also be in place, and, of course, ground forces must also be ready,” he said.
As is known, Iran is building up its arsenal of long-range missiles and drones , which are theoretically capable of hitting not only Middle Eastern countries, but also parts of Europe, including Ukraine.
As a reminder, the UAE has suffered hundreds of missile and drone strikes by the Iranian military, killing people and injuring dozens.
Earlier, Iranian drones attacked residential buildings in the Bahraini capital of Manama . Civil defense extinguished fires and conducted rescue operations at the sites of the hits.
