Iran in Turmoil: President Quits Amid Alleged IRGC Power Grab

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has reportedly stepped down from office, according to media reports citing sources familiar with the situation. The reported resignation is said to be linked to growing tensions over the extensive influence of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on the country’s political decision-making.

According to the publication, Pezeshkian sent an official letter to the office of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.

In the letter, the president allegedly stated that more and more state decisions were being made not by government structures, but by IRGC commanders. He also expressed concern that the country’s governance system was moving away from the declared political course.

According to Iran International, Pezeshkian critically assessed the current state of public administration and highlighted the growing role of the military in political processes.

At the same time, there is no official confirmation of the Iranian president’s resignation. The country’s authorities have not yet commented on the information published by the media.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is considered one of the most influential structures in Iran. The IRGC has significant influence not only on the security sphere but also on the country’s politics and economy.

It was previously reported that the US and Iran may soon agree on a basic agreement that should stop tensions in the region and pave the way for full-fledged negotiations on the nuclear program.
