Iran’s newly elected Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei was injured on the first day of the US and Israeli military operation.

This was reported by The New York Times.

Since the announcement of the son of the assassinated Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as the new Iranian leader, he has not made a single statement and has not appeared in public.

The publication’s sources cited two possible reasons — fears that any message could reveal his location, and injuries sustained during the attack.

Later, in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Bahai confirmed that the Supreme Leader had been injured.

“He is injured, but he is doing well. I don’t know when he will make his first speech,” the official said.

According to the NYT, Mojtaba Khamenei suffered leg injuries, but he remained conscious after the attack.

The leader is currently hiding in a “very secure” location with limited communications.

Earlier, Iran’s Assembly of Experts, at an extraordinary meeting, elected Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei as the country’s new supreme leader . He became the third spiritual leader of the republic after the death of his father.

Recall that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed as a result of a US and Israeli operation.
