Iran’s nuclear program under attack: IAEA reports damage to facilities

Since the beginning of Israel’s military attacks on June 13, damage has been reported to several nuclear facilities in Iran.

This is stated in a report by the International Atomic Energy Agency.

It is noted that on June 13, the fuel enrichment plant in Natanz was attacked, which destroyed the ground-based plant where Iran produced uranium enriched to 60% U-235.

The electrical substation, the main power supply building, as well as the emergency power supply and backup generators, were also destroyed.

Four buildings were damaged at the Isfahan nuclear facility in the June 13 strike:

• central chemical laboratory;
• uranium processing plant;
• Tehran Reactor Fuel Plant;
• enriched uranium processing facility.

Radiation levels outside the facility in Isfahan remain unchanged.

On June 18, the TESA workshop in Karaj and the Tehran Research Center were hit. Both sites were previously under IAEA monitoring and verification.

“At the Tehran Research Center, one building was hit, where advanced centrifuge rotors were manufactured and tested. At the Karaj workshop, two buildings were destroyed, where various centrifuge components were manufactured,” the report said.

The Khondab heavy water research reactor, which was under construction, was hit on June 19.

“Currently, no damage has been observed at other Iranian nuclear facilities, the agency added,” the IAEA said.

There have been no serious radiological incidents due to Israeli attacks so far, but the risk to nuclear safety still exists.

“Iran has a lot of nuclear material in different places, which means that the potential for a radiological accident with the dispersion of radioactive materials and particles into the atmosphere does exist,” he said.

As is known, on the night of Friday, June 13, Israel carried out a large-scale air strike on the territory of Iran . The targets were facilities related to the Iranian nuclear program.

It was previously reported that the US is preparing for a possible strike on Iran in the coming days . This is evidenced by the preparation of infrastructure for direct conflict with Tehran.
