On the night of June 17, a match between the national teams of Iraq and Norway will take place at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts (USA) as part of the 2026 World Cup.
The starting whistle will blow at 1:00 a.m. Kyiv time. In the US, it will still be June 16th.
This will be the second match of the first round in Group I. In the first match, the French team defeated Senegal 3-1. Interestingly, the teams exchanged goals in stoppage time in the second half.
The Iraq-Norway tie also leaves little doubt as to the favorite. It’s undoubtedly Norway, home to stars like Erling Haaland and Martin Ødegaard . And the list of stars on the current Vikings team is far from limited to these players.
As for Iraq, the mere fact that they’re competing in the World Cup is already an achievement. The Iraqi national team last played in the World Cup 40 years ago.
Incidentally, that championship was also held in Mexico, and among its participants was the USSR team led by Valeriy Lobanovskyi .
