Paul Mario Day, the original lead singer of Iron Maiden and a legend of British heavy metal, has died at the age of 69.

The musician’s family announced this, writes the New York Post .

The legendary heavy metal musician died peacefully at his home in Australia on Tuesday.

The official cause of the musician’s death is currently unknown, but according to Parade, the rocker had been battling cancer in recent years.

Day joined Iron Maiden as the band’s first vocalist in December 1975, aged 19, at the invitation of bassist Steve Garris. Day’s first Iron Maiden concert took place in London in May 1976.

Day was in the band for only 10 months before leaving due to accusations of a lack of energy and charisma. In 1980, the rocker formed the band More, which released its debut album, Warhead, the following year.

Day later fronted the band Wildfire from 1983 to 1984.

The musician achieved his greatest commercial success in 1985, when he joined the renewed line-up of the legendary glam rock band Sweet.

Let us recall that on July 22, the world lost one of the most prominent figures in rock music: Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary frontman of Black Sabbath, the founder of heavy metal and a symbol of the rebellious spirit of several generations, passed away at the age of 76. His death came as a shock to millions of fans around the world.
