On the night of March 18, the Israel Defense Forces killed Iranian Intelligence Minister Esmail Khatib in a precision strike in Tehran.

This is stated in the IDF’s post on Telegram.

“Acting on intelligence data from the Israel Defense Forces, the Iranian terrorist regime’s intelligence minister, Esmail Khatib, was eliminated,” the report states.

It is noted that Khatib took office as minister in 2021. He headed a key intelligence structure in Iran. The ministry is alleged to have played a significant role in “supporting the regime’s repression and terrorist activities.”

According to the Israeli army, the official supported the arrests and killings of protesters during recent protests.

At the same time, he previously held several key positions in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the IDF noted.

“His elimination joins dozens of other eliminations of senior Iranian terrorist regime officials throughout the operation, including senior Intelligence Ministry officials, and significantly undermines the regime’s command and control structures,” the Israeli army stressed.

As a reminder, the day before, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps confirmed the death of the head of the Basij volunteer paramilitary force, Gholam Reza Soleimani.
