Israel has carried out an airstrike on the Qatari capital Doha, targeting the leadership of the Hamas terrorist organization. The strike came as Hamas leaders were meeting to discuss the latest US ceasefire proposal. It has been officially confirmed that senior Hamas officials were targeted, but reports of casualties remain conflicting.
This is reported by Al-Arabiya.
The attack took place at around 4:00 p.m. Kyiv time in Doha. According to the Israel Defense Forces and Qatari media, the strike targeted Hamas leadership. The targets of the attack included, among others, Hamas leader in Gaza Khalil al-Hayya and political bureau chief Khaled Mashal.
Israeli media reports that US President Donald Trump has given the “green light” to the strike . Israel’s finance minister called the attack “the right decision”, stressing that “terrorists are not and will not be immune from the long arm of Israel anywhere in the world.”
According to Hamas sources, all participants in the meeting in Doha survived the attack, so there are no confirmed casualties among the organization’s leaders. At the same time, several explosions were heard in Doha, and plumes of smoke rose above the area where embassies and residential buildings are located. A representative of the Qatari Foreign Ministry called the attack “a gross violation of international law and a serious threat to the security of citizens.”
The Israeli army said in a statement that measures were taken to minimize civilian harm, including the use of precision-guided munitions and additional intelligence, before the strike, which was the first publicly known Israeli military action on Qatari territory.
Much of Hamas’s leadership in Gaza had been eliminated in the 2023 war, but its political leadership abroad remained largely untouched by the strike. According to media reports, the attack took place as the delegation was discussing Donald Trump’s latest offer to end the fighting.
Recall that Israel is preparing for a large-scale phase of the war in the Gaza Strip. The authorities are beginning the mobilization of about 60,000 reservists, who are to join the forces that will participate in the preparation and, probably, in the implementation of the operation in Gaza.
As reported, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu intends to seek a complete occupation of the Gaza Strip and is already seeking government support for the implementation of such a plan . The military command, some ministers, and the intelligence services are against it.
Earlier, Israel, defending the Druze minority, launched attacks on Syria , striking the headquarters of the country’s General Staff in Damascus.
