Israeli forces have captured a Hamas commander who headed the group’s internal security apparatus, previously known as Muein al-Arabid, during an operation in Gaza City.

This is reported by The Times of Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Shin Bet and IDF special forces detained the commander near his home in Gaza.

According to Netanyahu, the detainee is one of the most senior Hamas leaders. He was responsible, in particular, for hiding and moving hostages, harboring high-ranking members of the group, building up its forces, and restoring its combat capabilities.

Netanyahu also noted that the commander had recently participated in efforts to restore Hamas control of the Gaza Strip. In addition, he, according to the prime minister, helped carry out attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians.

In particular, the Israeli Prime Minister emphasized that the country will continue to pursue Hamas leaders and all those involved in the October 7 attack.
