Israel is preparing to resume hostilities in the Gaza Strip and is planning a new ground operation against Hamas. The operation could begin in March and would require approval from the United States.
This is reported by The Times of Israel .
The Israeli side is considering the possibility of resuming intensive hostilities due to Hamas’s refusal to disarm, which is provided for in the peace plan of US President Donald Trump. Journalists noted that without the consent of the United States, the implementation of such a scenario is unlikely.
According to journalists, Hamas has focused on rebuilding military capabilities lost during the war, including repairing damaged tunnels and restoring funding, which has allowed the group to regularly pay its fighters’ salaries again.
An Arab diplomat reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, despite his promise to cooperate with the US president on ceasefire issues, does not believe that Hamas disarmament is realistic.
“Netanyahu instructed the army to prepare a contingency plan,” the Arab diplomat said.
Following the ceasefire in October, Israel withdrew to the “yellow” demarcation line. The IDF now controls 53% of the Gaza Strip.
Journalists noted that the potential operation is considering expanding the controlled territory. Possible scenarios include the capture of Gaza City and the gradual establishment of control over the entire enclave.
The day before, it became known that Israel had accused Hamas of violating the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip , and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered immediate “powerful strikes” in response.
Recall, Trump announced that Israel and the Hamas group have reached an agreement on the implementation of the first phase of the peace plan , which concerns the Gaza Strip.
By the way, on Monday, October 13,the Palestinian group Hamas released all hostages kidnapped from Israel.
The Israeli army earlier reported a series of attacks by Hamas militants outside the buffer zone , which it said were a gross violation of the current ceasefire. Palestinian sources, however, accuse Israel of dozens of violations of agreements reached in October.
