Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir announced the start of an offensive operation against the Lebanese Hezbollah group.
The Times of Israel reports this.
According to Zamir, the Israeli military is switching from defense to active operations after Hezbollah launched overnight missile and drone attacks on Israeli territory.
“We have launched an offensive campaign against Hezbollah. We are not only defending ourselves, but also going on the offensive,” he emphasized while assessing the security situation.
The chief of staff warned that the army must be prepared for several days of intense fighting.
“We must prepare for several days of fighting, many days. We need a strong defensive posture and constant readiness to attack in waves,” Zamir noted.
Israel has previously carried out several waves of airstrikes against Hezbollah targets in Beirut and southern Lebanon in response to rocket attacks.
Earlier, it was reported that Iran had blocked the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf , a key route for oil shipments from the Middle East. Oil tanker traffic in the strait has been effectively halted, and vessels have reduced their speed to zero.
It was later reported that two drones attacked a commercial port in the Omani city of Duqm on Sunday. One of the drones reportedly hit a residential complex, injuring one foreign worker.
At the same time , the Palau-flagged oil tanker Skylight was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Oman . As a result of the incident, four crew members were injured, and all 20 sailors on board were evacuated.
