US President Donald Trump said that it is not Russia, but Ukraine, that is holding up the process of concluding a potential peace agreement.

This was reported by Reuters.

As noted, such statements by Trump differ sharply from the rhetoric of European officials, who claim that the Kremlin is not fully interested in ending the war.

According to the American president, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is ready to end the war in Ukraine.

“I think he (Putin – ed.) is ready to make a deal. I think Ukraine is less ready to make a deal,” he said in the Oval Office.

When asked why the largest war in Europe since the 20th century was not ended thanks to US efforts, Trump replied: “Zelensky.”

He did not specify why Ukraine is holding back the peace process, only adding that “it is difficult for him (Zelensky – ed.) to achieve this.

Reuters suggests that the rhetoric indicates renewed disillusionment with the Ukrainian president.

“At times, Trump has been more willing to take Putin’s assurances at face value than the leaders of some U.S. allies, which has irritated Kyiv, European capitals and American lawmakers, including some Republicans,” the article says.

At the same time, Trump may meet with Zelensky at the World Economic Forum, which will be held next week in Switzerland.

Trump previously accused the Ukrainian authorities of lacking gratitude for his efforts to end the war.

By the way, he stated that the only real concession from the Russian Federation in a potential peace agreement with Ukraine could be a complete cessation of hostilities .
