The US Republican Party has expressed disappointment with the meeting between the US and Russian presidents, calling it “disgusting” and “a failure.” At the same time, they believe that the very fact of talking to terrorist Vladimir Putin, who should be in the dock, is “seriously upsetting.”
Boris Pincus, an American politician and member of the Republican Party of the United States, spoke about this on the air of “Pryamoy”.
“Of course, we all counted on Trump, promising to determine in 2-5 minutes whether Putin wants peace, to achieve this. If not, he would immediately break off the negotiations, call Zelensky, the European Union, NATO – and go ahead. But this did not happen. All our fears were confirmed. Why? Because the very fact of Trump meeting with a terrorist who should be sitting in the dock with a death sentence was already upsetting us,” Pincus noted.
In addition, he points out, Trump received the Kremlin dictator on American soil, and with a red carpet. “To be honest, it was disgusting to watch everything that was happening. There was a hope that Trump was playing, maybe he was positioning him in this way and would achieve his goal. Nothing like that. It turned out that it took three hours to communicate with Putin, not five minutes, and nothing was achieved. Absolute zero,” the public figure noted.
“Overall, it’s a complete disappointment. And after all this ended in Alaska, we began to contact our party members, including aides to congressmen, senators, in other states and Washington. I am reassured that America will continue to help Ukraine with weapons. This is one hundred percent. Now Congress – of course, bipartisan friends of Ukraine – will rethink everything that happened. Of course, we will have to change tactics,” the American politician said.
“Trump’s approval rating is 32 percent. It’s terrible, disgusting. That was before the meeting with Putin. And if you add to that today’s failure, a complete failure, then nothing good is expected of us Republicans in the coming months until the American people feel changes in Trump’s policy, especially in foreign policy towards Ukraine,” emphasized Republican Party representative Boris Pincus.
As is known, on August 5, negotiations took place in Anchorage, Alaska, between US President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. On the eve of the meeting , there were serious fears in expert and political circles that the outcome of the negotiations would be a “territory exchange,” that is, in fact, the legalization of occupied Ukrainian lands by the Russian Federation.
Following the talks, Trump and Putin held a joint press conference. “Pryamy” collected all the key statements of the US and Russian leaders . After the talks, the US President stated, in particular, that the summit was constructive and gave reason for optimism. He announced consultations with NATO and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but stressed that there are no final agreements yet .
In addition, Donald Trump said that both Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky want to see him present at a potential joint meeting on a peaceful settlement in Ukraine. Trump also refused to impose new sanctions against Russia and confirmed that during the negotiations he discussed territorial agreements and security guarantees for Ukraine.
Instead, Putin stressed after the talks that a resolution to the war in Ukraine is possible only after eliminating its “fundamental causes” and restoring the balance of security in Europe. He called the meeting “mutually respectful” and invited the American leader to the next summit in Moscow.
Meanwhile, former US President’s national security adviser John Bolton sharply assessed the results of the meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska, stating that the Russian dictator achieved most of what he wanted , while the American president received only the prospect of further talks.
