“It will only feed Putin’s appetite”: Szybiga opposed the meeting of the leaders of the US, China and Russia

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga criticized the idea of a trilateral meeting of the leaders of the United States, China, and Russia on Ukraine on October 19. In his opinion, such a format will not bring peace closer, but will only increase Vladimir Putin’s self-aggrandizement.

He wrote about this in X.

Sibiga said that inviting the Russian president to such a summit would give him international weight he does not deserve. The minister emphasized that Russia is a global problem, not a world power.

According to the Foreign Minister, the Russian economy is at least 13 times smaller than the American one and 8 times smaller than the Chinese one. At the same time, due to sanctions, Russian technology, industry, and business are in a state of stagnation.

“A trilateral meeting of the leaders of the US, China and Russia will not help end the war any faster,” Sibiga noted.

He also stated that negotiations without Ukraine’s participation will not contribute to ending the war. According to the minister, Russia lost 1.6 million soldiers killed and wounded during the full-scale invasion, but cannot win and does not demonstrate readiness to end the fighting.

Sibiga stressed that Putin could demonstrate a desire for peace by agreeing to a ceasefire. Instead, according to the minister, Russia is intensifying terror against the civilian population.

“As long as this terror continues, there should be no place for it at any table,” the Foreign Minister emphasized.

Recall that Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed holding a trilateral summit with US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping to discuss ending the war against Ukraine. The proposed format does not include the participation of President Volodymyr Zelensky.
