President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, Oleh Ivashchenko. During the meeting, priorities were identified for reducing Russia’s economic and military potential.

During the meeting, Oleg Ivashchenko reported on the general situation around Ukraine and current threats to the state. Special attention was paid to the issues of reducing Russia’s ability to finance the war.

“We continue to focus on reducing Russia’s economic potential: the less the aggressor earns, the more opportunities there will be for diplomacy,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

According to the president, special emphasis is placed on limiting Russian oil exports, which should be reduced and made cheaper. This is seen as one of the key factors in reducing the aggressor’s resources.

Separately, the meeting discussed measures to weaken Russian military production. This includes severing Russia’s international ties and blocking schemes to circumvent sanctions.

“We are acting similarly with regard to Russian military production: the more we break the aggressor’s ties with the world and the schemes for circumventing sanctions, the more potential there will be in efforts to end the war,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.

The president also thanked the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine for its work and the information provided in this direction. Following the meeting, it was announced that starting today, Oleg Ivashchenko will continue his service in the Military Intelligence of Ukraine. He has been tasked with carrying out tasks aimed at further limiting Russia’s military potential and strengthening the security of the state.

What is known about Oleg Ivashchenko?

Oleg Ivashchenko is a Lieutenant General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine.

He was born on September 9, 1969. He has many years of experience serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including in leadership positions in the field of military intelligence both in Ukraine and abroad.

From 2015 to 2019, Oleg Ivashchenko held the position of First Deputy Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and at the same time was Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for Intelligence.

From 2019 to 2024, he worked as the First Deputy Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine – Assistant to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for Intelligence.

On March 26, 2024, by decree of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, Oleh Ivashchenko was appointed Head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine. Since March 29, 2024, he has been a member of the Headquarters of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and was simultaneously included in the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

Oleg Ivashchenko has a solid education. He graduated from the Kyiv Higher Combined Arms Command School, the National Defense Academy of Ukraine, the National Defense University of Ukraine, the University of Economics and Law, and the Kyiv-Mohyla Business School. He holds a PhD in Military Sciences.

Ivashchenko is a participant in hostilities. In 2021, he was awarded the military rank of Lieutenant General. For his service to the state, he was awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, 3rd degree and the Order of Danylo Halytsky.

The day before, the media reported that the new head of the Main Intelligence Directorate could be Oleg Ivashchenko . He currently heads the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine.

Earlier it was reported that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with Kyrylo Budanov and offered him the position of head of the Office of the President. Later it became known that Kyrylo Budanov accepted Volodymyr Zelensky’s offer to head the Office of the President .
