Japan shaken by earthquake: Tsunami threat declared

A powerful 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck Japan late on Monday evening, December 8.

This is reported by Kyodo News.

The tremors were felt in the northeast of the country, after which the authorities issued a tsunami warning for three prefectures.

The Japan Meteorological Agency has warned of a tsunami threat for the coasts of Hokkaido, Aomori and Iwate. The Japan Times reports that the earthquake struck in the eastern part of Aomori prefecture, and in many areas the wave height could reach 3 meters. Residents of these regions are urged to evacuate to higher ground immediately.

The Japan Meteorological Agency recorded an intensity of more than 6 on the local scale in the city of Hachinohe. The epicenter of the earthquake occurred at a depth of about 50 kilometers.

It was previously reported that winter weather will arrive in Ukraine on December 9 – some northern, eastern, and central regions will be covered in wet snow.
