EU chief diplomat Kaia Kallas said that EU countries should transfer interceptor missiles to Ukraine, which are needed to protect against Russian attacks. In particular, we are talking about missiles whose shelf life is soon to expire.

She made this statement before an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers.

Kallas stressed that Russia has intensified attacks on Ukraine, and July and August have become the deadliest months for the Ukrainian civilian population.

“Russia is intensifying the escalation to cause as much damage as possible to the Ukrainians, to break them. The Ukrainians are holding firm, and we must support them. The main issue is air defense,” she said.

According to the diplomat, Ukraine lacks missiles for air defense systems.

Kallas noted that some European countries have interceptor missiles that are about to expire. She called for them to be transferred to Ukraine so that they could be used to protect civilians.

“We know that some countries have interceptor missiles that are about to expire. It would be very good if they were transferred to Ukraine so that it could use them to protect its people,” Kallas said.

She also announced that she is appealing to countries outside the European Union to help Ukraine with interceptor missiles.

“But, of course, it’s very difficult,” the diplomat admitted.

At the same time, according to Kallas, the EU, together with Ukraine, is working on the joint production of European interceptor missiles.

It was previously reported that British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said that in September he may travel to the United States, along with other European leaders , to persuade President Donald Trump to transfer part of the American stockpile of Patriot interceptor missiles to Ukraine.
