Kamikaze drones hit a defense plant in Russia: details of the attack

On the night of October 22, Saransk in the Republic of Mordovia was subjected to a massive attack by suicide drones, with the Saransk Mechanical Plant among the targets. The first explosions occurred around 3 a.m.; local witnesses released footage showing the drones hitting the plant and a large mushroom-shaped column of flame rising above it.

This is reported by the Astra resource.

The head of Mordovia, Artem Zdunov, confirmed the drone attack and reported damage to one of the region’s industrial facilities. Firefighters and other emergency services are working at the scene; the fire and the aftermath are ongoing.

According to preliminary reports, the drones covered a distance of at least 750 kilometers to the target, but this data is being officially confirmed.

The Saransk Mechanical Plant has the status of a federal enterprise and belongs to the structure of the state corporation Rostec. Officially, part of its production is related to the defense industry: in open registers, the company is listed as a manufacturer of components, in particular products used in the manufacture of ammunition. That is why the current attack has both a strategic and industrial dimension – its consequences may affect not only local infrastructure, but also individual links of the Russian military-industrial complex.

As a reminder, on Tuesday, October 21, the Air Force, together with the Ground Forces, the Navy, and other components of the Defense Forces, attacked the Bryansk Chemical Plant.

As reported, on Sunday, October 19, as a result of an attack by Ukrainian drones, the Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery, located in the Samara region, stopped operating.
