Kazakhstan’s President Calls on Putin to “Freeze” the War and Resume Negotiations on Ukraine

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev called for a freeze on the war against Ukraine and a resumption of the negotiation process during a meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. He also suggested a return to the so-called “Istanbul Formula 2.0.”

During a meeting with Vladimir Putin, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said it was time to return to negotiations to end the war against Ukraine. He said the previous round of talks had yielded “significant results.”

“Perhaps this conflict should be frozen and returned to the Istanbul Formula 2.0, since significant results were achieved there. It is clear that under the guarantees of major powers, including Russia, we should continue to move towards the long-awaited peace,” Tokayev said.

The President of Kazakhstan also said that he is receiving “many signals from Europe and the United States” regarding Russia’s war against Ukraine.

In addition, Tokayev noted that “the nature of this conflict is not entirely clear to many, including us.”
