Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev publicly accepted Ukrainian military chevrons as a gift and thanked the Ukrainian Armed Forces for their fight. His words of support for Ukraine’s actions instantly caused a wave of indignation among Russian propagandists.

This was reported by journalist Olena Kurbanova.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev found himself in the spotlight after receiving Ukrainian military chevrons as a gift from journalist Olena Kurbanova during a public event.

“The most valuable thing is the chevrons of our defenders. Because our army is the only guarantee of security for Ukraine,” said Kurbanova, handing over a symbolic gift to the head of Azerbaijan.

In response, Aliyev not only thanked, but also expressed support for Ukrainian efforts in the fight for independence.

“Thank you very much. Thank you for what you are doing. Keep it up,” he said.

These words caused an immediate reaction from the Russian information space. Z-propagandists called the event a “provocation”, and some publicly reminded Aliyev of the shooting down of a Russian helicopter over Armenia in 2020, hinting at “old scores.”

Moreover, in the comments, Russian bloggers indignantly declared “betrayal” on the part of Baku and called for “revision” of relations with Azerbaijan. However, official Moscow is currently refraining from harsh statements.

In addition to this incident, Aliyev has previously spoken out in support of the Ukrainian resistance. The day before, he stated that “one can never agree to occupation” and advised Ukraine to “not give up” in the fight for territorial integrity.
