King Charles arrives at the Vatican for historic meeting with the Pope

King Charles of Great Britain has arrived at the Vatican. He will be the first British monarch in half a millennium to pray publicly with the Pope.
His Majesty, accompanied by his wife, Queen Camilla, arrived at the ceremonial entrance to the Apostolic Palace in the courtyard of San Damaso, passing through the famous St. Peter’s Square.
To emphasize the connection between the Vatican and the royal family, an exchange of titles was announced today. This is part of the diplomatic exchange during such state visits.
King Charles will receive a knighthood, but will award the Pope the title of Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath.
The King will receive an honorary ecclesiastical title associated with the Church, becoming the so-called “Royal Contrater.” This is recognition of his work in building ties between the Church of England and the Catholic Church.
As a reminder, the British monarch Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla will meet with Pope Leo XIV this fall .
