During his speech in the Verkhovna Rada, newly appointed Prime Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Koretsky praised the work of Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, who is considered a leading candidate for the position of Minister of Defense. He also outlined the key priorities for the new Cabinet of Ministers.
According to Koretsky, he had the opportunity to personally observe the work of the Ministry of Internal Affairs during the heating season and highly values Igor Klimenko’s work.
“I believe he is a strong, professional, clear and effective minister,” the prime minister said.
At the same time, Koretsky expressed confidence that the new Cabinet of Ministers could become a “government of defense.”
The Prime Minister emphasized that the government will work in three main areas:
- government of defense;
- economic development government;
- Government of European Integration.
Among the priority tasks, he named providing for the defense forces, developing the defense-industrial complex, supporting citizens and frontline communities, and preparing the country for the next heating season.
According to Koretsky, the government will also focus on supporting businesses, effectively using international aid, and strengthening cooperation with international partners.
He also summed up his work as head of Ukrnafta and Naftogaz, stating that state-owned companies can operate effectively under professional management.
The Prime Minister also assured that support for internally displaced persons and veterans will remain one of the government’s unconditional priorities.
During his speech, Koretsky confirmed Ukraine’s unchanged course towards joining the European Union.
“Ukraine will be a member of the European Union. This is one of our constitutional priorities and the historical mission of our generation,” he emphasized.
In conclusion, the Prime Minister stated that the main criterion for assessing the Cabinet’s work would be support for Ukrainian military personnel and citizens, and also promised open cooperation with parliament and a willingness to make difficult, but necessary, decisions for the state.
As a reminder, the Verkhovna Rada appointed Serhiy Koretsky as Prime Minister of Ukraine: 289 deputies voted in favor.
