The Kremlin is trying to use the visit of Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, to the United States to spread pro-Russian narratives in the American information space. Analysts believe that the high-ranking official’s departure indicates Moscow’s concern about Washington’s tightening sanctions policy.
This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Dmitriev has already given several interviews to American media since arriving in the United States. His visit coincided with the announcement of new sanctions by the administration of US President Donald Trump against Russian oil companies, as well as reports that Ukraine was authorized to launch long-range strikes on Russian territory.
Journalists noted that the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund is trying to downplay the impact of sanctions and Ukrainian attacks on the Russian economy through Western media. Thus, the Kremlin seeks to create the impression in Washington that restrictions against Moscow are not having the expected effect.
Analysts emphasized that in his statements, Dmitriev actually acknowledged Ukraine’s readiness for certain compromises in the negotiations, but emphasized that Russia’s demands remain unchanged.
Experts also suggest that the Kremlin may be trying to impose the thesis of a possible “change of power” in Ukraine as a prerequisite for ending the war. According to them, Moscow’s ultimate goal remains the establishment of a government under its control in Kyiv.
It was previously reported that Kremlin special representative Kirill Dmitriev arrived in the United States for talks with the administration of President Donald Trump amid new American sanctions against Russia.
On the eve of the US imposed restrictions against the two largest Russian oil companies — Rosneft and Lukoil — and called on Moscow to agree to an immediate cessation of hostilities.
By the way, US President Donald Trump has chosen a middle option for sanctions against Russia , which focuses on the energy sector, rather than a complete blockade of the industry. This decision paves the way for further steps, including the transfer of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.
