After massive strikes on the energy sector and against the backdrop of frost, Kyiv is experiencing one of the most difficult winters in recent years: thousands of homes are without heat, and power outages remain unstable and difficult to predict.

A series of attacks on energy infrastructure, combined with cold weather, has led to a critical situation with heat and light in the capital. Thousands of high-rise buildings in Kyiv are left without heating, and residents are forced to live with constantly changing electricity schedules.

Oleksandr Golizdra, the head of the League of Energy Development of Ukraine, explained in a comment to “Telegraph” that any restoration deadlines can currently be considered only as conditional scenarios. According to him, the decisive factor remains the absence of new destructive strikes on energy facilities.

According to an optimistic forecast, provided the security situation remains stable, Kyiv may return to more predictable stabilization schedules of power outages as early as the beginning or middle of next week. This should be facilitated by both a gradual increase in temperature and technical solutions previously announced by the Ministry of Energy.

The work of emergency crews plays a special role. Currently, hundreds of power engineers are working around the clock to restore damaged networks and minimize the consequences of the strikes.

At the same time, a full return to the pre-war level of stability will require much more time. According to expert estimates, restoring the power grid to its normal state in the fall of 2025 will take several months. The situation with electricity generation is more complicated – here the terms are also calculated in months.

As for heat supply, according to the latest data, about three thousand houses in the capital remain without heating. In one night, heat was restored to more than two hundred high-rise buildings. The expert notes that after the partial launch of heat generation facilities under temporary schemes, the pace of restoration may increase significantly.

However, any forecast remains vulnerable: in the event of new attacks, the situation could change dramatically.

Let us remind you that on the night of January 23 , utility services and energy companies restored heat supply to over 650 residential buildings in Kyiv.

As reported, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that the situation in the capital is extremely difficult and the current moment may not be the most difficult. Klitschko called on Kyiv residents to stock up on food, water, and necessary medicines.

It is known that Ukraine’s energy system is in difficult conditions due to intensive Russian shelling and the most severe winter in 20 years. In connection with the emergency situation in the energy sector, the Government has identified a set of measures to overcome its consequences.

At the same time , Ukraine cannot cover more than a third of its domestic electricity needs due to damage to the power system. Consumption reached 18 gigawatts the day before, while the system’s capacity is only 11 gigawatts.

Due to Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, many Ukrainians are left without electricity and heating in the winter. Safe ways to heat homes and dangerous methods that can lead to poisoning or explosion are listed .
