Starting December 14, 2025, trains will begin departing every hour on one of the country’s most popular routes—Kyiv–Lviv.
Ukrzaliznytsia reported this.
Ukraine is introducing a clock-based system where trains operate on a stable, repeatable schedule that’s easy to remember. For example, trains depart hourly or at the same time every day, regardless of the date or day of the week.
Timing has long been a successful practice in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, and other countries with developed rail systems. In Ukraine, it has already been trialed on the Kyiv City Express, with positive results: passengers appreciated the predictability of the service, and UZ was able to better manage passenger flow.
Benefits for passengers:
-
easier to plan trips;
-
no need to constantly check the schedule;
-
predictability and convenience during peak periods
Benefits for the railway:
-
uniform load throughout the day;
-
reduction of peak “explosions” of passenger traffic;
-
more efficient logistics of rolling stock.
Most Kyiv-Lviv flights will operate year-round, with the exception of a few flights during the off-season.
The launch of regular service on this key route will be an important step toward modernizing Ukraine’s entire passenger transportation system and bringing it closer to European standards.
