Kyiv prepares food and water supplies in case of long power outages and emergencies

Kyiv is creating food and drinking water reserves in case of long power outages and other emergencies. First and foremost, assistance is planned to be provided to low-income Kyiv residents and people who find themselves in difficult life circumstances.
This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv City Council.
As part of preparations for the autumn-winter period of 2026-2027, the capital has formed and constantly maintains reserves of the main groups of food products. They are planned to be used to promptly provide low-income citizens with essential products in the event of complications in the operation of the energy system.
The supplies will also be used at emergency response points during prolonged power outages, to assist victims of emergencies, and to support workers involved in emergency rescue and other emergency operations.
With the support of charitable and public organizations, the city can organize hot meals for 25,000 people. In addition, the Department of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development of the Kyiv City State Administration plans to purchase another 20,000 food kits for use in emergency situations.
“Food security in the capital is not only the availability of necessary supplies, but also a clear system of their distribution and delivery to those who need help the most,” noted Oleg Kuyavsky.
He added that the city is preparing in advance for the possible challenges of the autumn-winter period, strengthening reserves and continuing to hold food fairs in all districts of Kyiv.
The preparation of food reserves is carried out within the framework of the work of the Kyiv Humanitarian Headquarters, established in February 2022. The headquarters coordinates the interaction between structural units of the Kyiv City State Administration, district state administrations, municipal enterprises, charitable organizations and donors, and also ensures the accounting, distribution and prompt delivery of aid.
According to Kujawsky, the situation on the consumer market in Kyiv remains controlled and predictable. He called agricultural fairs, which are regularly held in different districts of the capital, an important component of maintaining the food situation.
By the way, some menu items may be temporarily unavailable at McDonald’s restaurants in Ukraine . The company explains this by delays in product delivery due to frequent and prolonged air strikes.
The day before, the chairman of the board of the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center, Valeriy Chaly, stated that Ukraine is not threatened by famine and food shortages. He urged citizens not to buy food in large quantities, as the country will have enough of its own harvest, and goods will arrive via alternative routes.
