By order of the State Special Communications Service, 133 illegal online casinos were closed in Ukraine.

This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to the Association of Ukrainian Gambling Business Operators.

“Today, the Security Service of Ukraine, the State Service for Special Communications, the National Commission for the Control of Electronic Communications and the Association of Ukrainian Gambling Business Operators completed a joint large-scale special operation to block 133 illegal online casinos operating in the Ukrainian Internet space,” the report says.

The corresponding order of the State Special Communications Service was sent to Ukrainian Internet providers, who will block these sites for users.

According to AUOGB estimates, illegal online casinos brought in up to UAH 5 billion in turnover every quarter.

“The activities of illegal online casinos were blocked by technical and software tools. Illegal financial processing was also stopped and the corresponding P2P payments were frozen,” the report said.

It is noted that currently up to 50% of the Ukrainian gambling market is in the “shadow”, which is estimated at UAH 10 billion in losses.

“Illegal casinos, most of which today have roots in the Russian Federation, cause direct harm to the state, legal business, and most importantly, to Ukrainian citizens. On such sites, which are very often cloned after blocking, the risk of fraud, leakage of personal and financial data of players is extremely high,” emphasized the President of the AUOGB, Oleksandr Kohut.

As is known, on April 20, 2024, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy enacted a decision of the National Security and Defense Council on countering the negative consequences of online gambling. Among other things, the decision recommended that law enforcement agencies strengthen measures to respond to violations of Ukrainian legislation in this area.
