Lavrov on negotiations with the US: Russia is used to reaching agreements “like men”

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov outlined the Kremlin’s position on negotiations with the United States regarding the war in Ukraine, stating that Moscow is accustomed to resolving issues “in a noble and manly manner.”

He said this in an interview with the Russian agency RBC.

Lavrov mentioned the summit between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, which resulted in no formal agreements. At the same time, he stated that for the Kremlin, a verbal agreement can be as significant as a signed document.

“The merchants shook hands, reached an agreement – that’s it, and no one is signing any papers; it’s a matter of honor,” Lavrov said.

Commenting on the war negotiations, he added that Moscow is accustomed to conducting business in a “noble, manly manner,” calling these concepts virtually identical.

According to Lavrov, Putin appeared to verbally agree to the American proposal during the meeting in Anchorage, and the Kremlin considers this an agreement.

At the same time, the head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs claims that after the summit, the White House’s position changed under the influence of Ukraine and European allies.

In particular, Lavrov accused European leaders and Volodymyr Zelenskyy of allegedly convincing Trump to abandon the agreements that, according to Moscow, were reached in Anchorage.
