Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, during a meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on July 23, declared Moscow’s readiness for a political and diplomatic settlement of the war and called for a halt to arms supplies to Ukraine.
This is reported by “European Truth” with reference to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the parties discussed a wide range of bilateral and international issues within the framework of the development of recent contacts between Russia and the United States.
The Russian Foreign Ministry claims that Lavrov informed Rubio about what it called the “real state of affairs” in the Russian-Ukrainian war. The Russian minister also stressed the “inadmissibility of further arms supplies” to Ukraine.
In addition, Lavrov confirmed Russia’s readiness for a political and diplomatic settlement of the war and expressed support for the proposals that, according to the Russian side, were put forward by the United States during the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump in Anchorage.
During the talks, the issues of normalizing the work of diplomatic missions of Russia and the United States were also discussed. Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue contacts between foreign policy departments, in particular within the framework of the work of international organizations.
Earlier it was reported that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that talks between the American and Russian delegations in Alaska ended without reaching any agreements. The Kremlin responded by saying that such statements raise questions in Moscow.
