Russia has expressed expectations for the resumption of the negotiation process aimed at ending the war against Ukraine. According to Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the heads of delegations from both sides continue to maintain direct contact.
He reported this in a comment to the Indonesian publication Kompas, the interview was published on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
As Lavrov noted, Moscow seems to prefer a peaceful resolution of the conflict and continues to consider the “diplomatic path” as the main option for resolving the situation.
In his speech, he recalled the first rounds of negotiations that took place in February-April 2022 — first in Belarus, and later in Turkey. The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry placed the responsibility for the termination of the negotiations on the Ukrainian side, accusing Kyiv of allegedly “following the lead of Western partners” and betting on the continuation of hostilities.
Lavrov also recalled this year’s contacts in Istanbul, during which, he said, the parties discussed humanitarian issues — in particular, exchanges of prisoners of war and the return of the bodies of the dead. He stated that some progress had been recorded in these areas.
“Each side has set out its conditions for ending the conflict. The dialogue has not been interrupted – representatives of the delegations remain in touch. We hope for the resumption of negotiations,” Lavrov concluded.
As a reminder, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said thata meeting between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia is not yet possible, as the parties are “not yet ready” for dialogue at the highest level.
As reported, Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that Russia is doing everything to prevent his meeting with Vladimir Putin from taking place.
