Moscow has no intention of ending the war against Ukraine through negotiations and plans to continue achieving its goals on the battlefield. However, the Russian side is not yet holding peace talks.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this in an interview quoted by The Moscow Times.
According to Lavrov, Moscow will strive to achieve its goals on the battlefield, as Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated.
The Russian Foreign Minister also accused Western countries of repeatedly preventing Ukraine from concluding a peace agreement with Russia. Therefore, in his opinion, the West should not propose new initiatives to resolve the war.
“Moscow is not currently conducting peace negotiations,” Lavrov said.
Lavrov spoke out against ending attacks on civilian ships.
Separately, the Russian minister called unacceptable the proposal to stop attacks on civilian vessels in the Black Sea. He said Ukraine had proposed this initiative, involving Turkey in the discussion.
Lavrov compared the potential agreement to the Black Sea Grain Initiative, which was in effect from 2022 to 2023. He echoed Russian accusations against Ukraine, claiming that Kyiv had allegedly used civilian vessels to transport weapons.
At the same time, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the conditions for the export of Russian grain and fertilizers under preliminary agreements were apparently not met due to the position of European countries.
According to him, this was one of the reasons why Russia withdrew from the grain agreements.
Lavrov also stated that attempts to renew such agreements are “completely unacceptable and unrealistic” for Moscow.
As a reminder, US President Donald Trump’s special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner presented updated peace proposals during their visit to Kyiv . However, several hours of talks with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy failed to produce a breakthrough.
As reported, Russia may intensify attacks on the Ukrainian energy sector as cold weather approaches. The Main Intelligence Directorate already has information about the targets, means of destruction, and approximate timing of possible attacks.
