Law enforcement officers have uncovered the largest underground production of steroids in the country: 20 thousand packages of fake drugs

Law enforcement officers have uncovered the largest illegal production of steroids in Ukraine, which were passed off as imported medical drugs for athletes.

“The organizer and four members of an organized criminal group have been reported suspected of falsifying medicines and selling them (Part 3 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 321-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine),” the report says.

According to the investigation, the group operated in the Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, and Odessa regions.

The OGPU noted that the suspects had set up a full cycle of manufacturing and distributing counterfeit “medicines”. They were engaged in production in artisanal conditions in one of the regions. For this, they used unreliable equipment and unknown raw materials.

“According to the investigation, the suspects manufactured various medical drugs. Among them are hormonal anabolic steroids, in particular testosterone propionate, which is often taken by athletes to increase muscle mass,” law enforcement officials note.

From the outside, the preparations looked like medicines with factory packaging, labeling, holograms, and instructions. However, most of the “medicines” were fictitious.

The products were sold online. They were also sent by mail to various regions, where other participants were responsible for their storage and sale.

“In this way, the suspects misled citizens, creating the illusion of the legality and quality of drugs, which in reality posed a direct threat to the life and health of consumers,” the OGPU noted.

Law enforcement officers conducted 60 searches. The following was seized:

• equipment;
• raw materials;
• a large number of finished products – 20 thousand packages of over 30 different types of medications;
• almost 5 kg of loose tablets;
• 1,850 vials and 1,245 packages of ampoules with anabolic drugs.

In addition, two cars, a BMW X5 and a BMW M8, and cash in national and foreign currency, equivalent to over UAH 20 million, were seized.

Currently, all suspects have been placed under preventive detention.

The investigation is ongoing. Forensic examinations have been ordered regarding the chemical composition of other drugs, including the presence of potent or toxic substances. Other members of the organized criminal group and their roles are being identified.

Previously, the National Police of Ukraine exposed a criminal organization in Kryvyi Rih, which left part of the city without hot water and caused damage of almost 30 million hryvnias.
