Law enforcement suspects former Ministry of Culture official of smuggling “musicians” abroad
Слідчі дії поліції / Генеральна прокуратура
The former acting Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine has been notified of suspicion of assisting in the illegal trafficking of persons across the Ukrainian state border.
Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko reported this.
He noted that the scheme appeared to be a trip to charity concerts abroad. On paper, the men were members of a musical group. In reality, they had nothing to do with music.
This is why border guards initially refused to allow them to cross the state border.
But after this, the head of the ministry sent a second letter to the State Border Service of Ukraine requesting assistance in facilitating the departure of these same individuals, this time as members of a musical group. This letter became the documentary basis for their border crossing.
As a result, eight men of draft age left Ukraine and have not yet returned. The pre-trial investigation under Part 2 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine is being conducted by the National Police, the Prosecutor General noted.
The statement does not name the former minister. However, judging by the plot, it is Rostislav Karandeev, who served as acting Minister of Culture from 2023 to 2024, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
