Leaked transcript: what worries European leaders in negotiations with Washington

European media reported a leaked transcript of a conversation between EU leaders, which allegedly contained Emmanuel Macron’s statement about a possible “betrayal” of Ukraine by the United States.

According to media reports, Macron allegedly said that the US could persuade Ukraine to make territorial concessions without clear security guarantees. In a response to the German publication, the Elysee Palace sharply denied such wording and stated that the French president “did not use these words.”

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, according to the report, warned Zelensky to be careful in the coming days and said that US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff were “playing their own games.” Finnish President Alexander Stubb supported Merz’s remarks, while NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stressed the need to protect the Ukrainian president, the report said.

Spokespeople for Merz and NATO declined to comment on the content of the conversation.

It was previously reported that the American delegation had a telephone conversation with the Ukrainian team after meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

Recall that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin does not seek peace and uses negotiations with American representatives only to stall for time and manipulate in order to postpone new sanctions and arms supplies to Ukraine.
