Lech vs. Shakhtar: Prediction and preview of the Conference League Round of 16 match

Today, March 12, Shakhtar Donetsk resumes its European campaign. The Miners will play the first leg of the Football Conference League Round of 16 against Lech Poznan.
The match will begin at 7:45 PM Kyiv time. As a reminder, the Ukrainian team is forced to play its international matches in Poland for obvious reasons.
Comparing the teams’ current results, Shakhtar looks more convincing. In the Ukrainian league, the Miners are comfortably leading the standings. Meanwhile, Lech Poznan is third in the Polish Ekstraklasa, although only three points behind the top tier.
In the Conference League preliminary stage, Lech finished 11th, while Shakhtar finished sixth. This allowed the Donetsk team to begin the playoffs straight from the Round of 16.
Notably, this will be the first official meeting between these teams. However, Lech already has experience facing Ukrainian clubs. In the 2010-2011 season, the Polish club defeated Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk 4-0 in the Europa League playoffs for a spot in the group stage.
Given the teams’ current form and results, Shakhtar Donetsk is a slight favorite in this match. Bookmakers estimate the teams’ chances in the first leg are almost even. The odds for a Shakhtar victory are around 2.60 , for Lech Poznan to win, around 2.70 , while the probability of a draw is estimated at around 3.50 . It certainly won’t be an easy game for the Miners.
