The Strategic Communications Directorate of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has responded to threats from the Russian Defense Ministry, which previously hinted at a new wave of attacks on Ukraine in the winter. In response, the Ukrainian military published a laconic but telling message: “Let’s warm ourselves with the fire of Russian refineries.”
This is evidenced by the corresponding post on the StratCom page.
On August 14, the aggressor country’s Ministry of Defense released an image of strike drones with the caption “Like snow on the head” and a cynical phrase that Ukrainians would supposedly face “freezing” in the winter. Such statements were seen by many as a hint at continued strikes on Ukraine’s civilian and energy infrastructure.
In response, the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ StratCom published an image of a burning Russian oil refinery and a short caption:
“Let’s warm ourselves by the fire of Russian refineries.”
The reaction came against the backdrop of regular strikes by the Ukrainian Defense Forces on Russian oil depots, refineries, and other facilities of the fuel and energy complex that meet the needs of the occupation army.
On social media, the Russian Defense Ministry’s threats quickly became the subject of a wave of memes. Users began joking that after a series of successful strikes on Russian oil refineries, the Kremlin should worry not about the Ukrainian winter, but about its own fuel reserves.
As a reminder, the Russian Defense Ministry published a post on August 14 that can be regarded as another threat to Ukraine and a hint at increased attacks in the winter. This primarily concerns drone strikes on civilian and energy infrastructure.
