How the Liberation of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk Marked a Turning Point in the War
On July 5, 2014, Ukrainian forces drove Russian-backed militants from Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Druzhkivka, and Kostyantynivka — marking the first major turning point in Moscow’s war against Ukraine and a powerful symbol of national resistance.
Ukrainian flags once again flew over the cities of northern Donetsk region — a symbol of resilience and national dignity, even under constant enemy fire. Though the current full-scale aggression threatens the progress of recent years, we firmly believe that thanks to the courage of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the support of our people, and solidarity from the international community, every attack will be repelled, and the occupiers will be driven from our land.
The following day, July 6, 2014, Ukrainian forces also liberated Bakhmut from Russian militants.
The Armed Forces continue to eliminate the enemy and its equipment, determined to restore control over all temporarily occupied territories and bring justice for countless war crimes.
On this day of remembrance, we honour all who died during the liberation of Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, and other cities — both military personnel and civilians — who have fallen victim to Russian aggression since the beginning of the war.
