Lipetsk under attack: drones hit the sanctioned Energiya plant

On the night of Thursday, July 3, drones attacked several regions of Russia at once. The loudest explosions were heard in the Lipetsk region, in particular in the cities of Lipetsk and Yelets. Lipetsk is home to a military airfield, and Yelets is home to a battery manufacturing plant.

Drones have again attacked the Energia PJSC plant in Yelets. This company specializes in the production of batteries, in particular for unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as batteries for aviation and the navy.

The Governor of the Lipetsk region, Igor Artamonov, said that in Yelets, a drone fell into the parking lot of one of the enterprises, causing a fire. Rescuers quickly localized the fire, and employees of neighboring shops were evacuated. According to preliminary data, there were no injuries.
Although the specific enterprise was not named, Artamonov noted that drone debris is falling in various areas of the region.
The governor also reported that one of the drones hit a private house in the Lipetsk region, killing one person and injuring two others. Another drone damaged an apartment building in Yelets.
Local residents confirm numerous explosions, but there is currently no official confirmation of this information.
In the Voronezh region, according to Governor Alexander Gusev, falling debris from a downed drone caused damage to the roof of a private house, and one village was left without electricity due to a power line being downed.
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced this morning that 69 Ukrainian drones had been allegedly destroyed by air defense systems: 27 over Belgorod region, 22 over Voronezh region, 10 over Lipetsk region, 8 over Kursk region, and 2 over temporarily occupied Crimea. However, the governors of Belgorod region Vyacheslav Gladkov and the interim head of Kursk region Alexander Khinshtein did not report any attacks in their regions.
The Astra Telegram channel also reports that Rosaviatsia has imposed temporary restrictions on flights at airports in the Saratov and Tambov regions.
The acting head of the Tambov region, Yevgeny Pervishov, did not comment on the attack, but reported a fire at one of the enterprises in the city of Kotovsk. According to him, three workers died in the fire, three more were injured, two of whom were hospitalized.
“According to preliminary data, the fire broke out due to a violation of the technological process, it was quickly localized,” Pervishov said. He did not specify which enterprise was affected, although there are several factories in Kotovsk, including a gunpowder plant, plastics and technological equipment plants.
