Prime Ministers of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko and Lithuania Inga Ruginene announced new initiatives to support Ukraine. These include expanding assistance in the areas of defense, energy, and humanitarian programs, as well as political support for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union by 2030.
This is reported by ” Unian “.
Svyridenko stated that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Lithuania has provided our state with almost 1.8 billion euros in aid , which is about 2% of its GDP . According to this indicator, the country is among the three world leaders in terms of the level of support for Kyiv in relation to economic opportunities.
“Half of this assistance – about 900 million euros – is aimed at Ukraine’s defense needs,” Svyrydenko emphasized, thanking the Lithuanian side for its consistent and large-scale support.
Separately, the Prime Minister noted Lithuania’s contribution to the restoration of the Ukrainian energy sector, which exceeds 80 million euros. In particular, 21% of all equipment for the emergency energy assistance hub was provided by Lithuania. Among the transferred resources are equipment from Vilnius CHP-3 and equipment from Ignalina NPP, which is actively used to restore Ukrainian thermal power plants damaged by Russian shelling.
Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginenė confirmed that her government will continue to increase support for Ukraine. According to her, Vilnius plans to allocate at least 0.25% of GDP for Ukraine’s defense and security needs and is considering the possibility of further increasing this figure.
“We need to learn from your experience in combating Russian drones, which already pose a threat not only to Ukraine, but also to our NATO allies. We have signed an interdepartmental agreement on the protection of critical infrastructure, which will strengthen our cooperation in this area,” Ruginene noted.
She also expressed confidence that Ukraine can become a full member of the EU by 2030 , emphasizing the need to maintain the momentum of reforms and political support from European partners.
“We believe that it is during this period that Ukraine should gain its place in the European Union. This is not only a matter of politics, but also of the strategic future of the entire continent,” the Lithuanian Prime Minister emphasized.
Lithuania also unveiled a new humanitarian program aimed at helping children affected by the war. The initiative aims to provide psychological and social support to families whose children have been traumatized, abducted, or forcibly taken to Russia.
“We will use our experience in child protection to help Ukrainian families survive the consequences of the war. This is our moral duty and part of the common fight for humanity,” Inga Ruginene concluded.
It was previously reported that Ukraine and Lithuania will jointly produce defense products to strengthen the security of both countries. In particular, this concerns the production of long-range drones.
By the way, Lithuania plans to promote the purchase of American long-range Patriot air defense systems for Ukraine, allocating up to 30 million euros for this.
