Lithuania extends sanctions against Russia and Belarus until 2028

The Lithuanian Seimas has supported the extension of national sanctions against Russia and Belarus. The restrictions will be in effect until the end of 2027 .

The parliament adopted the corresponding decision on March 12. 65 deputies voted in favor, no one spoke against , and one more parliamentarian abstained.
The initiative to extend the sanctions was submitted by the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs .
Among other things, the document provides for a ban on the import of fuel from Russia and Belarus in standard vehicle tanks if its volume exceeds 200 liters.
The explanatory note notes that such restrictions will help prevent circumvention of European Union sanctions and indirect support for the regimes in Moscow and Minsk.
The Lithuanian government will also be able to freeze funds and economic resources, and if necessary, apply additional sectoral sanctions . This is possible if EU restrictions against Russia or Belarus are partially or fully lifted.
As previously reported, the Council of the European Union extended all existing sanctions against Belarus for another year – until February 28, 2027.
