Lithuania has prepared an evacuation plan for Vilnius residents in the event of a military threat or large-scale crisis. One of the three main routes involves leaving for Poland.
This is reported by Polskie Radio.
According to the plan, the direction and sequence of evacuations will depend on the location and scale of the threat. Two other routes from the capital lead to the north and west of Lithuania – towards Panevezys, Šiauliai, Kaunas and Klaipeda.
Representative of the Civil Defense Department of the Vilnius City Government, Žygimantas Soloviovas, noted that the updated plan was presented last year.
“One of the evacuation destinations from the capital should be Poland,” he said.
Evacuation is planned to begin before an immediate threat arises. Vilnius residents are advised not to expect to leave the city during shelling. In the event of a direct attack, people are advised to remain in shelters.
The authorities also emphasize that evacuations must be organized. People with their own cars will be able to leave via designated routes, and transportation will be organized for those without transportation.
Meanwhile, Poland is already preparing for a possible role as a transit corridor for residents of the Baltic countries. The Podlaskie Voivodeship has been included in the regional evacuation planning system, and local authorities are participating in the preparation of emergency action plans.
This is a pre-prepared scenario. Currently, there is no evacuation of Vilnius residents.
