Lithuania is studying the possibility of recovering compensation from Russia for the damaged embassy

Lithuania is considering seeking compensation for damage to its embassy building in Kyiv caused by Russian shelling. The final decision will depend on a legal assessment and determination of the amount of damage.

This was stated by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budris, a local publication reports .

According to him, experts must assess the extent of the damage, after which further steps can be determined regarding obtaining compensation.

Budris emphasized that Lithuania actively supports the creation of international legal mechanisms that should ensure the recording of the damages caused by Russia in Ukraine and the subsequent collection of compensation.

He recalled that the Register of Losses is already functioning, and a commission has been created to consider relevant applications, to whose work Lithuania was one of the first to join.

The Minister noted that currently there is a theoretical possibility to demand compensation for damaged property, but the issue of compensation specifically for diplomatic facilities requires additional legal analysis.

According to Budris, any damage — from broken windows to serious destruction — should be properly documented, and the damages caused should be compensated for in the future.

Earlier it was reported that Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda stated about the risk of possible Russian provocations in Poland and the Baltic states in order to test NATO unity . According to him, intelligence received signals about the preparation of attacks on the critical infrastructure of the Alliance countries.

It was also reported that Lithuania will provide Ukraine with almost 10 million euros in additional assistance . The new support package was announced by President Gitanas Nauseda during the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC).
