Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda stated that Russia may be plotting provocations in Poland or the Baltic states to test NATO unity. He added that intelligence has received signals of possible attacks being prepared on critical infrastructure in Alliance countries.
He said this in an interview with BNS, quoted by LRT.
Nausėda noted that Lithuanian intelligence services have information about possible preparations for such actions by Russia, but there is no specific location or time for potential attacks.
“We’ve received similar signals from our intelligence services. They don’t have a specific location or time, because it’s simply impossible to determine. In all likelihood, the other side (ed. – Russia) hasn’t even completed the planning, and we only know about the actual preparations or the ultimate goal,” the Lithuanian president stated.
He added that, in response to the information received, Lithuania has already tightened security measures at transport and energy infrastructure facilities.
According to Nausedi, the potential goal of such provocations could be to test the readiness and unity of NATO countries in response to possible hybrid threats from Russia.
Earlier, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated that Russia could be preparing a false-flag operation using Ukrainian drones for provocation.
