In Lithuania, the government of Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas has resigned. He announced the decision at a meeting on August 4, announcing that he was officially sending Lithuanian President Gitanas Navseda a notice of his resignation.
LRT reports this.
According to the law, the entire cabinet of ministers resigns along with the prime minister.
Finance Minister Rimantas Šadžius is expected to become acting head of government. The president must propose a new prime minister to the Saeima within 15 days, which must be approved by the parliamentary majority.
The largest faction in the Seimas, the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, will nominate a new candidate. The final decision on the candidate will be made at a meeting of the party’s presidium on Wednesday. Possible candidates include Jonava Mayor Mindaugas Sinkevičius, Social Security Minister Inga Ruginienė, Seimas Vice Speaker Juozas Olekas, and Vilnius District Mayor Roberts Dukhnevičs.
An adjustment to the coalition agreement is also expected, as it was tied to the figure of Paluckas. The Democratic Party, which is part of the coalition, does not rule out the demand to exclude the Nemunas Dawn party from it.
Let us recall that Lithuania plans to strengthen the protection of its airspace after it was violated for the second time in a month by an unmanned aerial vehicle, probably flying in from Belarus.
